Easing Out Of Lockdown: Why Should Cyber Security Remain High On The Agenda?

Featured Editorial
With the dramatic impact of Coronavirus across the globe why is now the perfect time to get your cyber security in order? As organisations slowly rebuild and employees edge back to offices the balance of Working From Home (WFH) and social distancing whilst at work present an ongoing headache for the person accountable for cyber security.

Are all your employees behaving in the right way online? Have they been provided with the habits and skills that will not only protect themselves personally from online threats, but your organisation too?

Working from home has presented a wealth of digital security issues. Are employees protecting company data appropriately on their PEDs?  Is their anti-virus suitably updated? Are they managing passwords appropriately (no Qwerty’s or 123456’s I hope?) And now people are slowly returning to work are they in tune with how and when to use public WIFI? Are they aware if someone is looking over their shoulder as they finish their emails on the way home? Are they operating safely online to protect themselves and your business.

GoCyber is a new, exciting app that takes a fresh approach to training your staff when it comes to cyber security and is set to revolutionise the way organisations train their employees on cyber safety.

Combining micro, action based learning – 10 minutes a day for 10 days – with highly engaging content, social learning and gamification, GoCyber makes a serious topic engaging yet drives life-changing habits that will have an immediate impact on the wider cyber security of a business.

All content has been curated by leading cyber security experts from across the globe. Once 10 steps are complete they are re-enforced with monthly blasts and annual refreshers to ensure habits are instilled and cyber behaviour across the organisation transformed on an ongoing basis. Providing you with the most important protection of all – your workforce. With so many organisations ‘WFH’ and cyber criminal’s rapidly exploiting this new vulnerability, this approach to learning actually couldn’t be better timed.

A number of leading brands have been using this action-based learning approach for their employee engagement schemes for a number of years with huge success. Now’s the time for it to benefit the cyber security awareness space too!

And as we navigate the exit of lockdown restrictions, here are GoCyber’s top ten tips for employees to help them stay safe online as we emerge from lockdown:

  • Don’t use the public Wi-Fi if you’re doing anything confidential, and certainly if you’re making financial transactions. Occasionally these hotspots might be fake ones set up by cyber criminals
  • Public Wi-Fi hotspots are fine for checking the weather or reading the news, its only when you start logging into your accounts that you need to be careful
  • If you are out and about and need WiFi why not use a secure mobile broadband dongle or your data (even if it’s slower), or wait until you get home and can access a router you know to be secure?
  • Be aware that just because you needed a code to access the WiFi, it doesn’t mean it is secure or safe
  • Check your apps are all up to date
  • Try using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) which will help provide additional protection
  • Don’t leave mobile devices unattended or forget to take them with you when you leave a public place
  • Think about who is behind you, and who could be reading what’s on your screen
  • Make sure all your team is trained and on board with good cyber security habits so they keep your company data safe, as well as themselves
  • Make sure Cyber Security is high on your agenda – with everyone relying on the internet more than ever it’s important, as an organisation, you minimise risk and that includes your people
