Manus - A Fully Autonomous Artificial Intelligence

A Chinese start-up has launched a new development in Artificial Intelligence (AI) called Manus, which is capable of thinking, planning and acting on its own. 

Manus is the first fully autonomous AI agent that works independently without human intervention, and it has been created by a team of Chinese software engineers. 

Whereas ChatGPT needs human action to work, Manus operates autonomously, can multi-task seamlessly and complete jobs without instructions. This presents a significant shift in AI development, with the potential to transform the industrial landscape, and potentially a new age in autonomous AI.

Manus can undertake complex work that would normally require human intervention and the work is done by Manus and users are told once tasks are completed, freeing them from constant supervision and so Manus functions independently. This breakthrough will have far-reaching implications. For example, Manus can analyse CVs and produce the recruitment  recommendations. Furthermore, following software development, Manus can build websites, and solve technical issues without human intervention.

The platform has three particular operational features which render at important and possibly critial innovation in AI technology. 

  • Manus could replace human workers, rather than simply assist them, which raises ethical and regulatory questions. 
  • Manus operates in the cloud, which allows for independence, but also raises concerns for data privacy. 
  • As Manus is Chinese-produced, it might pose a threat to US technology companies who presently  purport to lead in the international AI race.
