Putin Lashes Out After His Speech Is Delayed By DDoS

Vladimir Putin launched a 73-minute tirade against Western Governments after his speech was delayed by an hour due to a denial of service (DDoS) attack disabled the guest accreditation and admissions system of the conference.

Putin accused the West of colonial arrogance and said that “stupid” sanctions, which were imposed as punishment for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine are an economic “blitzkrieg”.

Putin was forced to delay a highly anticipated speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday 17th June after a cyber attack disrupted the system handling access badges to the venue, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The economic forum, known as the "Russian Davos", had for years hosted world leaders and titans of business and industry. An attendee at the forum said audience members were able to enter the main hall without difficulty, but noted that mobile Internet access in the area appeared to be cut off.

President Putin hit out at the sanctions from the West, branding them "mad and senseless", as well as criticising the the decision to grant Ukraine potential EU membership, reiterating claims that his forces invaded to protect people from genocide.

Mr Putin told Russia’s political and economic elite “We are strong people and can cope with any challenge. Like our ancestors, we will solve any problem, the entire thousand-year history of our country speaks of this.”

Putin also reaffirmed his fixed aim to continue the “special military operation” in Ukraine that has unleashed what he called an “unprecedented” barrage of Western economic sanctions. He said the main aim of the invasion was to defend “our” people in the largely Russian-speaking Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

However, Kyiv and the West has dismissed Mr Putin’s justification as a baseless pretext for a war that has already led to the occupation of parts of southern Ukraine far beyond the Donbas. “In the current situation, against a backdrop of increasing risks for us and threats, Russia’s decision to conduct a special military operation was forced - difficult, of course, but forced and necessary,”” President Putin told the audience.

Putin claimed the European Union had lost its "political sovereignty" in its response to the war in Ukraine and that sanctions from the West were more harmful to them than to Russia, claiming the European Union could lose more than $US400 billion because of sanctions on Russia.
