In the past few years, activity in cyber space in the State of Israel has developed at a rapid and intense pace. In 2002, the government of Israel addressed this challenge by establishing the National Information Security Authority.  

Since then, Israel’s functional continuity has become increasingly dependent on technology in general, as have other countries worldwide, and on cyber space activity in particular.  As a consequence of this dependence, the threats to Israel’s functional continuity have intensified.  

Numerous states and enemies are systematically developing capabilities and acting against various systems and elements in Israel. Nonetheless, Israel is a cyber super power and cyber is a rapidly growing sector within Israel's technology and innovation eco-system. 

Israel is internationally recognised as a powerhouse in the cyber security domain, with numerous cyber security start-ups, established companies, research institutions, and government initiatives. 

Cyber security is an essential field in the Israeli economy and, in recent decades, Israel has developed technical expertise in the area. The demand for experts in this field is high in an era of cyber warfare and crime.  

The roots of Israel's cyber security industry can be traced back to the country's strong focus on national security and intelligence.  The establishment of elite military units such as Unit 8200, the Israeli Intelligence Corps unit responsible for signals intelligence and code decryption, played a significant role in the development of cyber security expertise in the country.  

Many former members of Unit 8200 have gone on to establish successful cyber security companies or join existing organisations, bringing their unique skill sets and experience to the private sector.
