Russian cyber and IT specialists have already achieved success abroad by creating digital companies. In recent years, Russian specialists in the field of information technology have increased significantly, moreover, they successfully compete with specialists in this field abroad.

The Russian government is strengthening its national cyber defence by requiring commercial organisations to connect to a unified cyber security system. This initiative builds on the national Sovereign Internet law to centralise cyber security control and mitigate rising cyber threats.

The following companies are some of the largest Russian cyber security firms:

Kaspersky

The biggest Russian cyber security company, Kaspersky, has been under fire for years over its relationships with the Russian government, eventually being banned from US government networks. Kaspersky has always denied a special relationship with the Russian government.

The company provides cyber security solutions, including antivirus software. Its revenue for 2020 was $704 million. Kaspersky was one of the top 5 largest cyber security companies. Russian multi-national cyber security and anti-virus provider head-quartered in Moscow, and operated by a holding firm in the UK. It was founded in 1997 by Eugene and Natalya Kaspersky and Alexey De-Monderik. Kaspersky Lab develops and sells antivirus, internet security, password management, endpoint security, and other cyber security products and services.

Kaspersky expanded abroad from 2005 to 2010 and grew to $704 million in annual revenues by 2020, up 8% from 2016, though annual revenues were down 8% in North America,  due to US government security concerns.
As of 2016, the software had about 400 million users and has the largest market-share of cyber security software vendors in Europe.

Kaspersky Lab ranks fourth in the global ranking of antivirus vendors by revenue. It was the first Russian company to be included into the rating of the world's leading software companies, called the Software Top 100.
