Louis Vuitton Customer Data Hacked
Louis Vuitton, a leading brand of the French luxury group LVMH, says that it has been hacked by a criminal group that hit its UK systems and stole customer names, contact details and purchase histories.
The brand, which recently had its Korean operation hit by a similar cyber-attack has told its customers that no financial data had been stolen.
The hack took place on 2 July and it is the third breach of LVMH’s systems in the last three months. The company said it had notified the relevant authorities, including the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Louis Vuitton UK says it has taken measures to strengthen its system security. The company is investigating the incident and regrets the inconvenience caused to customers. It is still unclear whether the attack is related to the previous incidents at other LVMH brands.
Recently, another leading fashion, Christian Dior, said in May that hackers had accessed some customer data. In May, the luxury goods retailer Harrods was targeted, resulting in restricted Internet access across its websites after attempts to gain unauthorised access to its systems.
As part of an investigation into cyber-attacks on Marks & Spencer, the Co-op and Harrods a 17-year-old British boy from the West Midlands, a 19-year-old Latvian man from the West Midlands, a 19-year-old British man from London and a 20-year-old British woman from Staffordshire have been arrested. M&S had to shut down its online retail operation for nearly seven weeks.
The arrests came days after the M&S chair, Archie Norman, told Westminster MPs that two other large British companies had been affected by unreported cyber attacks in recent months.
The Co-op grocery chain was attacked in the same month and forced to shut down parts of its IT system while another supermarket business, Tesco, has experience major IT disruptions, although these are not known to be a result of malicious activity.
